SOS....SOS....SOS....

Morning all....no sewing stuff today...this is all serious stuff, we need your help please....
I received an email from Lorraine from Chookasmum and she has this fantastic idea....and asked if I could help out ...of course the answer was yes....Pop over to Lorraine's blog and have a read she has put together a great post..........
Lorraine's idea is that us bloggers band together and put together some 'sanity savers' for those affected by the horrific 'Victorian Fires' that have devastated our country.....to date there have been 181 lives lost, over 750 homes burnt to the ground and over 5,000 people left homeless at this stage...
These 'sanity savers' would be for those persons (mainly women) who are involved/or do/or love craft, gardening etc, if we could all get together and donate some goodies so that the many quilters, crafters, gardeners etc, will have some of life's little treats so that they can have some much needed crafty therapy. The donations do not have to be large just a fat quarter, a reel of thread, some needles, a pin cushion, I am sure you all know what I mean... if we all just give a little, then we will have a lot, which in turn would make up some lovely packages to pass on to these ladies who have lost so much.....their suffering will go on for a long time but if we could help out, just a little, and show that we care, I am sure this will make a difference to their lives....
So what do you guys think???....'sanity savers', yes or no.........if you would like to help out please leave a comment, send me an email or pop over to Lorraine's blog leave her a comment on her blog, send her an email, we would love to hear from you........more on this later....

  3. while i think this is such a lovely, thoughtful idea, i'd be a tad concernend as to how these cute packages would be distributed to the ladies. the thought of them being piled in a shed for god knows how long, like most of the donations that have been given to red cross would be too sad. as you may know, they have been overwhelmed with donations and are having trouble distributing it to the right people. the logistics of it seems to be the problem.,,,,just something worth thinking about. i'd be more than happy to help. just the thought of a crafty lady who has lost everything, being given a package where she could perhaps make her very own quilt, does the heart wonders.

Maybe things need a little time to settle first - I know how you feel - that 'how can I help, what can I do' feeling! God bless uou for your kindness!

  7. Hey Peg! I think you and Lorraine and I ... and obviously a lot of other stitchers ... think the same! I found that Karen at Mrs Martin's Quilt Shop (who helped me surprise you last year!!) is collecting quilt tops and random blocks, backing fabric and wadding to make up somw wonderful quilts to go to affected families. So, I've already started "doing my block!" Tee! Hee! Hee! Will also have a dig through the sewing room and see what goodies I can find to send down to you for the Sanity Saver packs. Good on you and Lorraine for getting this rolling! Some of us don't have a lot of cash to donate, but boy! Stitchers have a LOT of sewing supplies!!! Bear Hugs! KRIS

  10. The Missus and I were talking about the same thing last night....count me in, Peg. At assembly today the Principal announced that our school will be helping out schools over in Victoria. No specifics yet or a timeline...it is a matter of seeing what is most needed.
