I love fabric...I love kits....now when I buy kits I have the best intention of making them up....but do I....no....I look at them instead, I have this little stash in my sewing room that is getting bigger and bigger....so why don't I make them up...they look so nice in their packaging....but I think this year...no more, this must finish....so I thought I might share with you over the next few days some of my "stash"....this one is "Fresh Cut"...Heather Bailey which I purchased thru Cottage On the Hill...yes a couple of years ago...I have been looking at it for that long....OK....has anyone else out there with a similar problem..?? ..now you must be honest.....
Sometimes when the fabric is just so pretty (like yours) it is hard to cut into it. I love the daisies on your blog and the cheerful background.
ReplyDeleteBoy, do I have this problem! think its stems from coming from a large family..if you don't get in and grab something then it all will be gone!! :-)
ReplyDeleteSometimes my kits even get cut out..and then still sit in the pile
good luck with your year of the UFO!
Sheryl
Peg, I have a stash too...not a big, big stash, but it's still all money just sitting there waiting to be made up!
ReplyDeleteThis is the year to use up stash..

ReplyDeleteVery yummy fabrics Peg. I wish I had your problem, but alas I don't...
ReplyDeleteGorgeous looking fabrics in that kit, Peg!! I wish I had your problem!!
ReplyDeleteI know where my problem originates from. When I started quilting, I lived in Sydney, and coming back to Hungary, I knew I will have no place to buy patchwork fabrics or accessories from. So I had to buy a lot of things there. And then I always keep these fabrics for something even better then the one I am working on, because they are my precious Aussie fabrics. And now you can buy a lot of things here too, though they are usually awfully expensive, but I still buy fabric sometimes. And thus the stash is growing... But I pulled out of the cupboard 12 pieces of Debbie Mumm fabric yesterday and I will use them. I will, I will, I will... after I finished my son's Michael Flatley costume :-)

Yep! I have quite a collection of "USO's" (unstarted objects). I always tell myself that I can't start until I finish something else... but then something else comes along and the USO's remain just that.
ReplyDeleteMy weakness is the fat quarter packs at my LQS....$20 for 10. When I do the weekly shopping I drive right past the shop....and only go in for a look....honest! I always come out with one of the fq packs!

What's a riches!!!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with fat quarters!! sigh! I have bought lots of complete collections that I love to touch and look... This year I have decided to start using them... so I can do new orders ;)

Gorgeous looking fabrics in that kit, Peg!! I only go in fabric shops for a look....honest! But unfortunately the fabric talk to me ......buy me.... buy me (lol)
ReplyDeleteAAAHH i will confess that I have the same problem too. I bought a few kits when I first took up quilting. I have stared and stared at them for over a year and I too have started making headway at completing them - or at least using the fabric inside them. I have the first one almost completed and hope to show on my blog on Friday!
ReplyDeleteIt's ok Peg, you've done the first step. "Admitted Your Addiction".
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that I have purchased kits/fabric with good intention, I just buy fabric and never go back to it. I know it's there for whenever I want it.
See, I hide mine..... Is that MY problem.... I'm in denial. LOL!
You are not alone . Why do I buy fabric that I HAVE to have and then cannot bear to cut into it ?
ReplyDeleteclares craftroom
Peg that Heather Bailey fabric is just stunning. That fabirc would look so good in my flower garden.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric looks lovely Peg. Can I imagine your problem? No, not with kits, I never buy kits. But I buy any material that I like and imagine how it wil look in the quilt I am planning (but never will be made). It is all stashed in drawers en cupboards, I look at it, stroke it, fold it and put it away again. I collect it like stamps or coins. I am so glad if someone comes up with a usable idea like the Civil War Quilt group I joined to use some of my stash. But that first cut is a horribe feeling.
ReplyDeleteWel I have to admit that I have some ( read a lot of)fabric and other stuff in my drawers but no kits yet....
ReplyDeleteI have only odered one kit The mistery Quilt, you know.. He he we must try to use little by little.
Actually I've never bought a kit but my dear friend is the Queen of Kits...she has bins full. I think she's storing up for when her husband retires. :o) I have found I love the charm packs.

ReplyDeleteI guess we're in the same "club" here:-)
ReplyDeleteIt's really addictive this patchwork and stitching thing. Only trouble is... not enough time!!! i have books and patterns and kits I'll never be able to make even if I did live another 100yrs... I guess we have to be thankful for the things we do get done, and keep on dreaming about the things we never get to do:o)
Happy sewing:-)
I think there are a lot of people with the same problem. I try not to do it, but some times I purchase for the beauty of the fabric itself. I'll bring fat quarters to the office just to wish over throughout the day. I appreciate the colors, the feels and the dreams they represent. I purchase with good intentions-- I have time issues. But I have "hopes" of one day making those pieces. I love the one you've chose to display. It would be perfect to cheer up a cloudy day....
ReplyDeleteThe packaging is very pretty and so is the fabric. I would probably look at it for awhile and then I would have to sew it up. Especially since the fabric are all picked out for you. Makes it lot easier to get started. Look forward to seeing it done and the rest of your kits.
ReplyDeleteWhat yummy fabrics, I am finding myself loving to "just admire" the fabrics but I do make them up, what on earth am I going to do with all of these quilts?
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that pink group Y..U..M..M..Y
I love your blog by the way.
mine is www.quiltretreat.blogspot.com
Seems smithfamilyquirks is what comes up I am to new at blogging, not sure how to set up everything... Well I guess i went off on my problem for the day, I'd rather look at fabric.
My kits are altogether in a huge plastic covered tub. Every once in a while I go through them and pick maybe one to work on or just put it back with the others :^)
ReplyDeleteMy name is Amy, and I'm addicted to collecting kits too. I bet I have close to 20 kits in my closet. My goal this year is to start at least 5 of them. They're taking up too much space! Good luck with yours!
ReplyDeleteIts just a love of such pretty fabric. My problem is more that I love fabric. All fabric, any fabric! And kits are great because you get everything you need! I love the fabric show in that one posted!
ReplyDeletePeg... its the story of my life! I have a cabinet full of beautiful kits! All waiting for me to have the time to bring them to life... for now, they are sitting contentedly resting until their day in the sun :o)
ReplyDeleteCome on Peg - be brave. It's time to start cutting and make up some of these kits. The Fresh Cut fabrics are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYou SOooooo... know I have this problem Peg !!! I believe my Addiction may have gathered momentum when A Member of " Club Quilt "... How Enticingly Gorgeous is Fresh Cut of Heather Bailey's I have behaved myself with this range... So Far... but just adore it !!! Lol Helz xx
ReplyDeletei can see why you bought this...i have to admit i get excited and buy fabric...i do have every intention to use it...i really do.
ReplyDeleteHi Peg. I have the same problem with the few kits I have but also with FQ bundles, layer cakes, the list goes on & on. I can only sew/quilt so many hours in a day. LOL I think the biggest problem I have is that there are just too many wonderful fabrics out there & I am weak. :) Wishing you luck on getting many of your kits finished or at least started this year. Have a great week-end!
ReplyDeleteIf you have to have a problem, this is a good one to have. I have a similar one not with kits, but fabric (and patterns). The Heather Bailey range is gorgeous. I would love to see this quilt made up ... hint, hint!
ReplyDeleteHaha Peg, I think you already know just how bad I have this problem!! If you ever want to get rid of fresh cut..sell it to me!! See I do have it bad!

ReplyDeleteI have the strips cut for this one, Peg. I am planning on making it bigger and stitching it onto a foundation.
ReplyDeleteI do love these fabrics, they are so happy. Tell Martha she can still buy them $14/m(?) from catherinesplace.com.au in Perth. :)
It's such a pretty quilt. Can't wait to see yours.
