What A Day...

Well what a day...I have had the worst time today with my CA Security Firewall...unsure how it all happened but for some reason I could receive emails but not send any at all the Firewall would not allow it....but after several phone calls, receiving patches, and these not working, they then send another file to get rid of the corrupt file, then they sent this file locked, more phone calls to unblock....and so on and so on but I think I am there....
I ordered these two book quite a few weeks ago and they arrived in the mail today...I have decided I will make all blocks, not sure how many years it will take me but......
Have a question...what is the best way of doing the blocks....templates or foundation, would love some help here...thanks... Peg ... :>) ...

  2. Seeing as templates isn't part of my quilting vocab, I'm doing foundation piecing. I'd usually do paper piecing, but since I started on the scrappy log cabins, by Melly and Me I've discovered the use of lightweight interfacing as the foundation. So much better than trying to remove tiny pieces of paper lodged into seam lines.. Some of the blocks can be done with rotary cutting, but most will be foundation pieced. Did you get the discs as well as the books?

  4. I am measuring the drawings and rotary cutting the pieces whenever the pieces are easily measured in inches. I'm doing paper piecing for those that aren't. Not at all a fan of numbers like "almost 3 and 5/16".

  5. Computer woes are the pits. I am glad you got them fixed, I would miss your posts if your computer was infected.

I have not done the Civil War blocks, but I do know that foundation piecing would be very accurate especially if the blocks are small.

  7. I don't know who is more insane - you with your Civil War blocks, or me tackling Dear Jane. Oh well, at least if we get committed to an asylum, we can keep each other company! Good luck with the blocks - if anyone can achieve this, I know you can.

  8. Wow, Peg! I think a lot of blocks will have to be foundation pieced, like in the Dear baby Jane quilt. You can buy wonderful lightweight stuff to use for the foundation. I used teabag stuff, but it tears apart too easily. I now use vlieseline 11.
Good luck, I can’t wait to see the first blocks!

  9. Hi Peg, I have both books too and have made 4 blocks from Love Letter's so far. I am using templates, freezer paper style, not sure if its the easiest but its what I'm comfy with. Your very ambitious making all blocks. I actually found another book like these called The Amish Circle Quilt also by Youngs! Its similar but has little appliques too!!

  10. Hi Peg. Glad your going to do these blocks too. We can all help each other. I'm intending to foundation piece mostly. I did a bit of a google and have discovered the CD has foundations you can print out - also rotary cutting directions. This would save heaps of time ... only catch is you have to have EQ to run the software. Will have to investigate a bit more, I think. Good luck with your ambition to make all the blocks.
