I have cupboards full of fabric and baskets f...Yep. I have cupboards full of fabric and baskets full of scraps. Occassionally I make a scrap quilt or block and whittle the scraps down a bit, but not much! I don't have any fabric colour sorted. It's just in the cupboard! My scraps are colour sorted though. I am in a couple of bees and the monthly blocks we make are generally from scraps so the colour coding makes bee block making easier.

I think you are normal. Really, you need lots of fabric. What if one night you can't sleep and there's no fabric to start a new project? I used to feel bad about the amount of scraps I had, but I ended up being retired from my career a year ago, and with a much smaller income now, I am loving the free fabric! It makes it possible to continue the charity sewing I used to do, and since it was great fabric the first time, it is part of some great looking projects now. Don't despair- it is one of the benefits of quilting. How many crochet hooks do I REALLY need?? If I have them in an organized manner..just one of each. My fabric, well what there is of it will all be ironed, folded and sorted by color. I have a few scraps and they are in a little drawer. Nothing like your wonderful scrap factory you have going on there LOL. HA!

We all have our stash of small bits of fabric.

I read a blog where the gal takes her small bits of left over fabrics from projects and either cuts strips of 2" or 3", or squares. Then chucks the slivers.

I started this process and it works well for me. I now have a drawer of 2", 3", and another od squares. When I start a new project I see if any of my strips are good with this project.

It seems that I moved from a basket of "Stuff" to drawers of "Strips of Stuff". For me its an improvement.
