I love your journal covers. Every one of them I see I think...I gotta make some of those!!! Before I go I just have to mention your quote about the size of the Christmas Tree. It is so true...and the same thing goes for gifts. I have always found that it doesn't matter if there are 2 or 12 gifts under the tree for the little ones, their eyes still shine with delight and anticipation. I have to share a little story with you. Many years ago when our girls were very young, about 7 and 8, on Christmas morning their little friend from next door came over and was excitedly looking at all the gifts my girls had received. As they sat down to play one of their new games, we asked their little friend, Cassie, what she got for Christmas and she said "my new shoes, aren't they neat?" They were a cute and very durable pair of little girls sneakers. We all oooed and aaahed about how cute they were, then I asked, what else did you get? She, looked at me a little confused for a minute and said, "Just the shoes...me and my brothers all got a pair of shoes and mom and dad got some too and we got and orange and a candy cane in our socks". I was totally embarrassed! (If that's the right word). Along with nice gifts for our girls, new coats, a couple of games and each a little portable radio, there was candy, and other 'junk' under the tree. Cassie just stared at everything but I could tell she did NOT feel sad that she had only gotten one gift. She was over the moon excited about her new shoes and also excited about my girls Christmas gifts! Talk about a lesson in humility, not to mention a wake up call as to how blessed we truly are and how we had still jumped right onto the commercialized Christmas band wagon. After Cassie went home, I went into my bedroom, shut the door and sobbed my heart out. Later that night, we talked with the girls for quite a while about Christmas, what it truly represented and how different our gift giving was going to be from then on. OH, with my younger grand-kids I still fall into the trap of buying silly little gifts to add to their main one but all in all, we have been pretty good. That year Christmas took on an entirely new meaning for my family and it stuck, thanks to one little girl and her new Christmas shoes! I also forgot to mention that when Cassie came to the door Christmas morning, she had a candy cane with a little bow on it to give each of my girls!
